Burt & Kurt History

Following is a collection of clippings, photos, headlines, and promotional pieces that help tell the Burt and Kurt story.  It only seems like yesterday when we met for the first time in Jackson, Mississippi.  These 30 years have passed so quickly and we've been blessed to see and experience so much.  Best of all, we still have a blast doing what we enjoy most.  We owe a special debt of gratitude to all of our wonderful listeners who have so faithfully supported over the years.  (We're just starting to dig out the old pixs.  Come back to this page again.  There will be a lot more memories.)

Kurt started as Burt's newsman doing an occasional character voice. But those characters became so popular that Kurt became a co-host.

Elvis had just come to Jackson, MS. Leading up to that event we used an Elvis Spotter Car to give away prizes. Ultimately, we gave away the car.

Burt's first son, Sean, modeled an official 62JDX sweatshirt on the cover a the station's playlist.

The success of the Burt and Kurt Show was incredible. This is one of the first articles to appear in a Jackson, MS publication.

We will never forget the day we left Jackson, MS. Our listeners were like family. Many cried...and one fellow even offered to give us land.

Here we are soon after arriving in Tampa. Standing next to Kurt was our program director at WLCY, Jan Jeffries who came from Birmingham.

Here's an article that appeared in the St. Petersburg Times.

And then this from Manatee Magazine.

Another appearance in the St. Petersburg Times.

Burt and Kurt celebrating their first anniversary in Tampa.

This is from a very flattering piece that appeared in Tampa Bay Magazine.

Upper left shows two of our newscasters in Tampa, Jackie Ripley and Greg Jarrett. Greg is now with the ABC network.

This from another Tampa Tribune article.

We even played basketball against the Globe Trotters. You can probably guess who won.

And again in the Tampa Tribune.

From Tampa we moved to KULF in Houston, Texas.

This appeared in the Houston Chronicle.

From Houston we moved to Magic 96 in Birmingham. We signed the station on the air.

Birmingham Magazine did a nice article on us.

Here's one of the early headlines from the Birmingham News.

The Punch featured us on several occasions. Here's the cover from one of them.

Gosh....how many events have we emceed over the years. Must have been thousands.

This article appeared in the Birmingham News just prior to our live broadcast from the opening of the brand new Galleria.

We even had our own brand of cereal.

And then there was this nice article on us in the KUDZU.

Alabama Guy Hunt gave us this proclamation.

No...Rick and Bubba aren't the only air personalities to be selected as Birmingham's best in the Birmingham News.

And then came the move to Oldies 106.9.

Here's one of our first Oldies ads.

This brings us to where we are today. Nearly 30 years later...still going strong at 101.1 FM, The Source.

And we still love doing radio.

Our fans are very special people. Without them there never would have been so many special memories.
